MISSION STATEMENT:<\/b> States that no resident of any Hospital or Institution who has a need of our message of recovery be denied the opportunity to receive it (p. 136) from the \u201cH&I Handbook\u201d.<\/span><\/h4>\n

PURPOSE:<\/b> To carry the message of recovery to the addict who does not have full access to regular Narcotics Anonymous meetings.<\/span><\/h4>\n

WHAT IS THE GREATER EAST LOS ANGELES N.A. PUBLIC INFORMATION SUBCOMMITTEE?<\/b>
\nTells the public about recovery from active addiction through the twelve steps and twelve traditions of Narcotics Anonymous. Our purpose as a subcommittee is to let people know that there is recovery, real recovery, from the disease of addiction. <\/span><\/h4>\n

WHO DOES IT?<\/b>
\nWe work together as a service committee directly responsible to those they serve. P.I. subcommittees provide community awareness of what Narcotics Anonymous is and when, how and where we are available. <\/span><\/h4>\n

WHY WE NEED YOU?<\/b>
\nEvery area needs an effective P.I. subcommittee to spread the word. Any committee is only as good as its members. We need speakers, writers, creative minds, and helpers. We even offer on the job training. <\/span><\/h4>\n

HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED?
\n<\/b>The Greater East Los Angeles Area Narcotics Anonymous of Public Information subcommittee meets the first Sunday of the month at 6:00 PM. We urge you to attend. For more information please contact the Greater East Los Angeles NA help line at 323-721-5504<\/span><\/h4>\n

HISTORY
\n<\/b>In 1953, a handful of addicts seeking recovery held the first Narcotics Anonymous meeting in Southern California. Gradually, new meetings started in other areas of the United States and other parts of the world. In 1982, we published a book titled, Narcotics Anonymous. Our literature has been translated into many different languages and we now have more than 16,000 meetings in over 40 countries. Currently, we have 66 meetings in this area.<\/span><\/h4>\n

DESCRIPTION OF NARCOTICS ANONYMOUS
\n<\/b>The name Narcotics Anonymous does not refer to any particular drug or group of drugs. Rather, it is used as a general term, which applies to any drug or chemical substance which is used to change moods or feelings, or to get high. Our program focuses on addiction and recovery, not on specific drugs. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop using.<\/span><\/h4>\n

NARCOTICS ANONYMOUS STRUCTURE
\n<\/b>In different levels of service the member is the highest level to whom we serve. Hospital and Institutions carry the message to addicts who are unable, for whatever reason to attend our group.<\/span><\/h4>\n

Literature Committee <\/span><\/b>– Any new literature concerning our fellowship, from its inception to review and finalize draft is written by members of Narcotics Anonymous.<\/span><\/h4>\n

Public Information <\/span><\/b>– Informing all areas of the public about who and what we are, and where we can be found.<\/span><\/h4>\n

Phone Lines <\/span>–<\/b> A 24 hour a day phone line committee taking phone calls to help people find meeting information or just to talk to a recovering addict.<\/span><\/h4>\n
